Dr. Denis Choquette MD, CSPQ, FRCPC
has completed his medical degree at the Université de Montréal in 1979. He then proceed to super specialized in Internal medicine and rheumatology at Notre-Dame Hospital, now university medical center for the U of M (CHUM). He completed his formation at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH), McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Hyman Tannenbaum and Dr. John Esdaile. He then practiced as consulting at The MGH and in a community hospital, Centre Hospitalier Régional de Lanaudière in Joliette, Québec. He became director of the University of Montreal rheumatology program in 1997, after a fellowship at Necker Hospital in Paris, France. Focus of research was autoantibodies in SLE. He was appointed director for the Canadian Rheumatology association in 2004. In 2009. He was elected as president of the Quebec Association of Rheumatologists 1in 2008. He is also co-founder or the Institut of Rheumatology of Montreal since 1998 and Founder and scientific director of Rhumadata ®, the Quebec clinical database and registry. This computarized clinical and real-life database hosted at the Institut de recherche en rhumatologie de Montréal (IRRM) and the Centre d’ostéoporose et de Rhumatologie de Québec (CORQ) collect clinically pertinent information on patients with rheumatoid arthritis (4000 patients), ankylosing spondylitis (1000 patients) and Psoriatic arthritis (1000 patients). He is the main or co-author of more than a two hundreds abstracts and posters presented at major scientific meeting such as ACR, Eular, CRA, SFR. He is also author or co-author of more than sixty original papers. His main topic of interest is optimizing the therapeutic strategies for patients with inflammatory arthropathies in this era where many alternative options such as the biologic agents and the newer small molecules such as tofacitinib, apremilast, baricitinib and SEBS or biosimilars.
