Professor CS Lau
is Chair and Daniel CK Yu Professor in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology of the Department of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. He is also Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) and Director of the Bau Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, as well as President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. Professor Lau is currently Guest Professor of the Central South University and Honorary Professor of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital of China.
Professor Lau has made significant contribution to the development of Rheumatology locally and internationally. He is Honorary Consultant and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, which was voted APLAR Center of Excellence in 2016, at Queen Mary Hospital. Professor Lau was also President of the Hong Kong Society of Rheumatology (1997-2001), Chairman of the Subspecialty Board in Rheumatology/Immunology & Allergy of the Hong Kong College of Physicians (2001-2007) and Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation (2001). Regionally, he co-founded the Hong Kong-Guangzhou Rheumatology Study Group (1998), Huaxia Congress on Diagnosis and Management of Rheumatic Diseases (1999), Asian Congress of Autoimmunity (2005), Ten Topics in Rheumatology in Asia (2008) and the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaboration (2012). Between 2006 and 2008, Professor Lau was President of APLAR (Asia Pacific League of Associations of Rheumatology). He was instrumental in facilitating the success of indexing APLAR’s own journal – the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, in PubMed. In 2015, he led the development of APLAR’s first ever treatment recommendations for rheumatoid arthritis.
Professor Lau received his MBChB degree and MD with Honours from the University of Dundee. He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, as well as the Hong Kong College of Physicians and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. He is Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore, American College of Physicians, College of Physicians Singapore and Royal College of Physicians of Thailand.
